Cleaning up Images for Better Printing

This image was a candidate for being used in a book I was working on. We wound up going with something different (this image was NOT used), but it's a good example of the advanced photoshopping adjustments that some images require before they are print ready.

This etching by Frederick Wentworth from 1872 was scanned by Wolfgang Moroder.
Here is the image after I cleaned it up. We knew that the paper quality wasn't high enough to include the background of the image and still have the main characters be clear. So, I cut away the background. The next problem was that the dress of the central violinist was cut off, as was the chair of the man on the left. I drew these in for a complete, cohesive image.
